It has been a curious experience to feel like both a local and a newbie since relocating back to Litchfield Park / Goodyear after over 20 years. The development of the West Valley has been amazing with so many new housing developments, recreation centers, ball parks, restaurants and retail stores. Adding even more to the quality of life is that both the Phoenix metropolitan and rural areas are easily accessible from here. That balance is important to my family as I am sure it is for many people relocating to Arizona.

Our favorite movie night is complemented by a delicious meal at Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, stroll through the shops and great conversation in the sophisticated outdoor seating areas. As for family adventures, recreation areas such as White Tank Mountain Regional Park offers approximately 25 miles of trails, ranging in length from 0.9 mile to 7.9 miles from easy to difficult. While the Day hikes can provide some breathtaking views of the mountains and panoramas of the Valley below, our family favorite is the moonlight hike. It’s an exciting, family friendly opportunity to experience the Arizona desert during the cooler evening hours. The desert is absolutely lovely and the nights are quiet and clear. Our road infrastructure is relatively new, and compared to the rest of the country, the morning commute towards Phoenix is very reasonable. The Golf courses are magnificent and we are gaining quite a bit of quality local restaurants as well as those in Phoenix and Scottsdale are less than an hour away.
The Cleveland Indians brought their spring training facilities to Goodyear and the Arizona Cardinal and Phoenix Coyote stadiums are in Glendale, a mere twenty minutes away. So Sports are huge in our immediate neighborhood.
With White Tank and Estrella Mountain minutes away, hiking is also minutes away. So for 9 months of the year we can enjoy Golf, Sports and Hiking every day. While during the infamous summer months, we switch to activities like moonlight hikes, movies or day trips to the mountains just an hour and a half away. It’s obvious to us every winter morning that ten percent of the Northeastern and Midwest population wakes up and makes plans to move here. The weather IS the best!
Taxes are half of what they are in California and utilities are very reasonable with lots of nuclear out here. Add in that you can find twice the house for half the cost of San Diego, San Francisco or San Jose and believe me, living in a 2500 sq foot house with ten foot ceilings is a pleasure to live in especially with a reasonable mortgage payment.
